Anna May Wong and Chinese-American Legacy

  • Welcome to Chinatown 151 Bowery New York, New York, 10002 United States (map)

On Friday, November 13th,  Join us for an intergenerational conversation exploring Chinese-American identity, history, and cultural legacy through the life and work of pioneering actress Anna May Wong. Featuring Vanessa Niu, New York State Youth Poet Laureate (2025–2026), and Katie Gee Salisbury, author of Not Your China Doll: The Wild and Shimmering Life of Anna May Wong, the discussion will examine how Chinese-American experiences have shaped—and continue to shape—the broader American story.

From family histories and inherited cultural identities to questions of representation, belonging, and cultural preservation, the conversation will consider what it means to be Chinese-American across generations, and how we recover, reinterpret, and carry forward the stories that connect us.
